On vacation to Malacca 11th May 2009

I’d chance to visit Malacca on 11th May with my family, before went to Kuala Lumpur for my daughter’s medical check-up. It’s almost 5 years I’m not visited Malacca. Because we passed from Muar, the road to Malacca was not congested or even as difficult as previous road. When was in Malacca city, I narrowly missing my way as most direction here already changed a lot.
If go to the Malacca, the place where we will drop is in A Famosa, a still solid bad gate in Bandar Hilir, Malacca.
It’s no major change in gate called 'Porto' by Malacca Portuguese. I saw it the gate still remain unchange. The tourists who came to visit A Famosa still a lot. On what I noticed that to seek out parking indeed very difficult. May be caused in that day was Sunday and near A Famosa are Dataran Pahlawan and a shopping mall (I forgot the name of shopping mall) which also located for Hypermarket Carrefour. I’m not able to park my car at A Famosa area and I have to parking inside the shopping mall. Near A Famosa also located the old school. I’m not sure whether the school still operation or close by the government.
For the history, A Famosa has started built on 1511, under command of Afonso de Albuquerque. His forces attacked and successfully defeated the armies of the Malacca Sultanate. However in 1641 when Dutch successfully drove Portuguese out of Malacca, the Dutch renovated the gate in 1670. So this is to explain the logo “ANNO 1670” inscribed on the gate's arch. Above the arch is a bas-relief logo of the Dutch East India Company.
I did not want to write in details the history for the A Famosa. You can refer to this link for more details on A Famosa in history. ( Click here )

After I spend sometimes with my wife to take photo in that building, we went to Dataran Pahlawan and inside Dataran Pahlawan, you will found some small shop, especially for handcraft shop. Actually Dataran Pahlawan is link to the shopping mall that locate Carrefour.
If you want to know for the details of Dataran Pahlawan, you can visit their website here.
